Poppy Day Remembrance Competition
What is Poppy Day?
Remembrance Day is on 11th November each year.
The symbol of Remembrance Day is the Poppy, a flower found on the battlefields of Belgium and France where millions of Britain and Commonwealth soldiers died fighting the Germans alongside their French counterparts. For this reason it is often called Poppy Day.
To remember all the soldiers who have died and suffered fighting for Britain and the Commonwealth, every year people wear and display paper and plastic poppies and donate money to charities who help veterans (ex-soldiers).
Across Britain and the Commonwealth, the ‘Legion’ charities organise competitions for school students to recognise the horrors of war.
